The India Research Network (IRN) is proud to announce its first linkage project with a premiere Indian academic institution - Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi. IRN alumni Lesley Branagan will complete a two-month fellowship at the university's AJK Mass Communications Research Centre in Delhi, with the mentorship of award-winning filmmaker academics, Professors Sabeena Gadihoke and Shohini Ghosh. She will complete the rough cut of a documentary film about the life and work of Australian photographer/visual anthropologist Robyn Beeche. Read more about the project.

Association of Social Anthropology Conference

Associate Professor Ram will be speaking at panel convened by Professor Andree Grau (Director Centre for Dance Research, Roehampton University), at the annual conference of the Association of Social Anthropology, hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dept. of Art and Aesthetics, April 3-6th. The conference is on Art and Aesthetics in a globalising world, and she will be speaking on the legacies of Kalakshetra of Chennai in terms of forging new forms of taste for the post Independence Indian middle class.

IRC Students Spotted by SMH

Students of anthropology, and Network member Monica Dalidowicz were snapped by the Sydney Morning Herald while they feasted on local Indian cuisine following their visit to the Sydney Murugan Hindu temple. The student visit to the temple is a key component of  ANTH 301: India: Power and Performance which offers a multi-sensory approach to education, combining anthropological theory and ethnography with sensorial experience.
